  • Breadsticks
  • Pretzel sticks for the tree trunk

Green Layers (For the Tree)

  • Cucumber cut into rounds
  • Green grapes fresh, whole
  • Kiwi peeled and sliced
  • Snap peas fresh
  • Broccoli florets small, fresh

Red Ornaments (For Decoration)

  • Cherry tomatoes whole or halved
  • Fresh raspberries
  • Pomegranate arils

Nuts & Extras

  • Almonds roasted or raw
  • Pistachios shelled
  • Dried apricots
  • Cornichons or green olives

Dips

  • Hummus your favorite flavor
  • Whole grain mustard
  • Honey for drizzling
  • Fig jam

Garnish

  • sprigs Rosemary fresh, for garland
  • 1 slice Cheddar or gouda cheese for the star topper

Instructions

  • Select a large wooden board or platter that provides ample space for the tree shape. Arrange small ramekins nearby for your selected dips.
  • Create the tree topper by cutting a star shape from a slice of cheese using a mini cutter or small knife, and place it at the top center of your board. Form the tree trunk at the bottom using a small stack of pretzel sticks.
  • Outline the triangular shape of the Christmas tree, starting with a wide base and tapering towards the star. Use green ingredients like cucumber rounds or green grapes to create a clear guide for your layers.
  • Fill the tree outline by layering alternating rows of cheeses and meats. Fold salami and pepperoni into quarters to create a ruffled texture, and neatly arrange cheese cubes and slices to build visual interest.
  • Decorate the tree by nestling colorful 'ornaments' like cherry tomatoes, raspberries, and pomegranate arils throughout the layers. Add pops of green with snap peas and kiwi, and place small clusters of nuts and olives to fill any gaps.
  • Position the filled dip ramekins around the board. Artfully arrange crackers and baguette slices along the sides for easy grabbing. Finish by draping fresh rosemary sprigs across the tree to create a festive and fragrant garland.

Equipment

  • Large wooden board or platter
  • Small ramekins for dips
  • Mini star cutter or small knife

Notes

For best results, prepare your ingredients ahead of time by slicing cheeses, meats, and veggies up to 24 hours in advance, storing them separately. Ensure juicy fruits and vegetables are patted dry to keep crackers from getting soggy. For optimal flavor, allow the cheeses to sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before serving. This helps their complex flavors to fully develop.
